Aircraft structures & tooling

Engineering drawings, structural repairs, and specialized tooling at Western Aircraft.

An illustrative rib and skin assembly, not an aircraft repair drawing.

I spent the summer of 2025 as a Structures & Avionics Engineering Intern at Western Aircraft. The work connected engineering drawings with the practical demands of aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul.

Structures

I produced SolidWorks engineering drawings for major structural repairs and alterations on the Pilatus PC-12, Gulfstream G550, and Beechcraft King Air. Structural and airworthiness requirements were part of the work throughout.

Tooling

I also developed specialized tooling and drawings for the Pilatus PC-24, Pilatus PC-12, and Dassault Falcon.

Beyond the drawing

Working alongside maintenance technicians, tool room and warehouse managers, safety leads, avionics technicians, and sales managers gave me a broader view of how an MRO operation works.

A drawing belongs to that larger workflow. The people who manufacture, handle, install, and inspect the hardware are part of the engineering context.

This is a short overview of my role from June through August 2025. Customer drawings and aircraft-specific repair details are not reproduced here.
